Street to Nowhere apparently plays solo as that seems to be what he was announcing to the crowd of mostly pre-teen girls that were gathered tightly in front of the stage at Loveland over the weekend. I make the point to note I typically only go to shows with this audience age bracket if the bands are somehow affiliated with Fueled By Ramon. At Loveland I was, however, there to check out Rainer Maria who I have heard so much about-rather seen so much about in the press, but never actually heard.
So Street to Nowhere played, using dramatic hand motions to illustrate his lyrics of "Dead Cliches" and the like. Emo meets rock-a-billy. Yeah-that's about right. He was a little bit Connor Oberst at times, which I remarked. Then browsing for other people's photos on flickr I came across a comment that said he was Connor meets Freddy Kruger. Couldn't have thought it better myself.
Soon Rainer Maria took to the stage, warning the sweaty half there mob of tweens and teens that they'd need earplugs after being questioned by one audience member if they rocked. Something tells me this isn't their typical crowd, especially since their last show in Portland was at an over 21 establishment. The energy was a bit more subdued than I had expected as they battled on with continued conversation with the audience the whole way through.
