Camden Town Rock
Back in December I caught Holy Hail and like half a song by Black Kids at the Barfly in Camden Town, because I couldn't be bothered to leave my place until midnight on the Friday they played.
I was slightly under-whelmed, which I didn't anticipate, but give HH lead singer Cat major kudos for being so into their set - endlessly bouncing around all happy - it was almost contagious, but never fully crossed over. She even jumped into the unrallied audience for a bit. All I could think and geek out about was "She used to be in FannyPack! She used to be in FannyPack!" Man - has she come leaps and bounds. While I miss the odes to camel toes and fire, I do love the N*E*R*D crossed with Sons and Daughters sound of Holy Hail that now is veering towards B-52 territory. "Cool Town Rock" showcases their ability to write crazy good and crazy random pop tunes that depend on dual vocalists. They closed with that - which is their current single out on Adventures Close To Home Recordings and also the promoter of the Barfly night.
Can I just express my disappointment that they didn't play my favorite song of theirs "County Fair Part 2." Major bummer man.
Drum roll please... Their set-list was:
"Big Guns"
"Double Dutch"
"Endless"
"Blood Hands"
"Born of a Star" (MP3)
"Planet Shock"
"I Owe"
"Cool Town Rock"
